Of uncertain affinity; to herald (as a public crier), especially divine truth (the gospel): - preach (-er), proclaim, publish.
The internet may quickly spread the gospel at near the speed of light. There are over a billion people around the world, who currently want to learn English. An English speaking Christian can get a “Teaching English as a Foreign Language” (TEFL) certificate in about a month, then they can reach and teach people on the internet all over the world!
I will collect a small pension and I was searching for a way to supplement my income part time, and I came across “English as a Second Language” (ESL) teaching. Apparently, If you are fortunate enough to be born and raised as a “native” English speaker (U.S.A., England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand), you are in high demand in nearly every country on earth as an ESL teacher, especially if you have a Bachelor’s degree. Not coincidentally, these same countries are predominantly Protestant Christian countries. Approximately 1.5 Billion people around the world are currently attempting to learn English, and that number is expected to increase rapidly.
ESL TEACHER DEMAND
ESL teachers tend to be young and college educated, they also tend to gravitate towards the few 1st World countries that pay the most: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Japan, South Korea, U.S.A., and Western Europe. However, there are many countries where the cost of living allows ESL teachers to live quite comfortably such as: China, South East Asian, Russia, Eastern Europe, even though they cannot match the pay of the 1st World. Finally, much of Latin America, Africa, India, and the poor Islamic countries find it very difficult, or impossible, to afford “native” ESL teachers.
Approximately, a quarter of the world’s population survives on less than $2.00 a day, and PAYING for a English teacher, or tutor, would be an unimaginable luxury. Most of the world believes that learning English is the ticket “out of poverty”…and they may be right! Most world commerce, international trade, and international transport is conducted in ENGLISH.
ESL TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS
The 1st World countries usually require the following qualifications: 1) Be a NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER. 2) A BACHELOR’S DEGREE in any subject, preferably in teaching. 3) Some type of “CERTIFICATION”, such as TEFL, TESL, TESOL, or CELTA. There is no universally recognized ESL certification, but CELTA is the closest (and also the most expensive).
The “qualifications” requirement decreases as the demand for ESL teachers increases. Most “native” English speakers usually want to be paid at least $10 per hour. Any “native English” speaker is welcomed nearly everywhere in the world if they will “volunteer” to work for room and board. If you GOOGLE “ESL teacher jobs” hundreds of positions will appear. However, scam artists are rampant in the ESL teacher recruiting business. The most recognized ESL teacher job board is probably: http://www.eslcafe.com/

Also, there are Christian “missionary” positions around the world for ESL teachers: http://www.christiantefl.org/jobs/
ONLINE ESL TEACHING
In just the last few years, with the advent of high band width, high speed internet, and SKYPE: https://www.skype.com/en/
Online English teaching companies have been springing up all over the place:
Also, ESL teachers are setting up their own websites and are working from home:
PREACHING THE GOSPEL
I was watching some YOUTUBE videos about ESL teachers starting their own online ESL teaching websites. Several of them offered temporary FREE classes to attract students and soon had several hundred applications from all over the world. However, they soon found out that most of the applicants were poor and did not ever intend on “paying” for lessons.
This gave me the germ of an idea for internet evangelism. Suppose Christians from English speaking countries committed to giving FREE English lessons, for a few hours per week, to a small group of about ten people! The caveat would be that the lessons are free ONLY because they are Bible based, and Christian centered. This would be the internet equivalent of “FREE religious schools” that have been around for thousands of years. If people are not interested in Christ centered English lessons, they can always “pay” for lessons somewhere else!
Therefore, 100,000 committed Christians could disciple 1,000,000 Christians in two or three years; those 1,000,000 disciples could disciple another 10,000,000 Christians in another two or three years; those 10,000,000 Christians could disciple 100,000,000 Christians in another two or three years; those 100,000,000 Christians could disciple 1,000,000,000 Christians in another two or three years; those 1,000,000,000 Christians would reach the entire world in two or three years. Therefore, in not more than 3+3+3+3+3 = 15 years, the whole world would hear the gospel.
Actually, world evangelism could be much, much faster than that because Philip apparently evangelized the Ethiopian eunuch in a few hours…God did the rest.
Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Act 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
INTERNET MISSIONARY QUALIFICATIONS
- Be a committed mature Christian, who understands the gospel of Jesus Christ, 2) Be willing to commit a small amount of time and resources to teach, disciple, and fellowship with a few immature/mature Christians around the world. Who knows who you might meet?
WHAT YOU PROBABLY NEED
- A computer…costs a few hundred dollars. Most American families already own one. Perhaps a Christian organization/person will donate time on a computer, or give you an old computer if they understand why you need it?
- An internet connection…$19 to $40 per month?
- SKYPE connection…FREE
- website…FREE on google.
- English and Christian teaching resources…FREE on the internet.
There are many benefits to this method of missionary work. First, danger is greatly decreased. You can teach the gospel to a Chinese citizen and not worry about going to jail. You can teach the gospel to a citizen of Saudi Arabia and not worry about having your head cut off.
Second, cost is greatly decreased. You do not have to figure out how to raise a large amount of money for travel or living expenses in some foreign land. You will not have to worry about some far away “missionary board” yanking your funding and leaving you stranded in the middle of a jungle or in a desert wasteland.
Third, you will have a great deal of autonomy. You will be able to follow your own convictions. You will be responsible only for your small group of online students, and most importantly, you will be answerable ONLY to God!
Finally the most important benefit: Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
I must confess that I have only had this “internet missionary idea” for a short while. Actually, being an “online missionary” has probably only been possible for the last couple of years. I also confess that I have no experience teaching English, but I am committed to trying to get some type of “ESL certification”. It would be nice to have some reference point before I get started. It would also be useful to have a website that provided some basic instruction, and where people who are interested in becoming “online missionaries” could share resources and experiences.
If any of our readers already knows about an existing “internet missionary”, or have ESL experience, and would like to start a website, please feel free to run with the idea. Please contact me if you are thinking about trying the idea, perhaps I can be of some help. Somebody has to be the first “internet missionary”!
Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Dan 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
