Exo 7:10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
Exo 7:11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
Exo 7:12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
The Apostle Paul named these sorcerers in his second letter to Timothy and he prophesied that similar men would appear in the last days.
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
2Ti 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
The Apostle Paul apparently had access to records other than the Torah because these Egyptian sorcerer’s names are not mentioned in the Books of Moses. The Apostle Paul also had first hand experience dealing with sorcerers who attempted to interfere with the gospel.
Act 13:6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
Act 13:7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
Act 13:8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
Act 13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
Act 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
Act 13:11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
Sorcerer: G3097, magos, mag'-os
Of foreign origin [H7248]; a Magian, that is, Oriental scientist; by implication a magician: - sorcerer, wise man.
It is interesting that the word is of Babylonian origin. Babylon is the source of black magic and sorcery and is the beginning and end of sorcery and rebellion against the LORD.
H7248, rab-mâg, rab-mawg'
From H7227 and a foreign word for a Magian; chief Magian; Rab-Mag, a Babylonian official: - Rab-mag.
If the word “rabmawg” sounds slightly familiar it is because it is also the root of the Jewish word “Rabbi”.
G4461, rhabbi, hrab-bee'
Of Hebrew origin [H7227] with pronominal suffix; my master, that is, Rabbi, as an official title of honor: - Master, Rabbi.
Like I said, I expect the Sons of God to soon be revealed with signs, wonders, and mighty works but I believe the children of the devil will also arrive performing miracles.
Rev 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Rev 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
Rev 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Therefore, it is very important that we have discernment in these last days. We cannot blindly follow somebody because they have supernatural powers. Jesus spoke about how to determine whether somebody was His true followers.
Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
False prophets may speak the right words but their actions will ALWAYS find them out. They cannot hide their fleshy nature. Like Balaam, they will be avaricious and desire to fulfill the lusts of their flesh more than to obey God.
2Pe 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
2Pe 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
2Pe 2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
2Pe 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
Many movies have come out in the last few years exhibiting people with supernatural powers. I believe the movies, books, and music dealing with the supernatural is preparing the world for these new age sorcerers; therefore, please be watchful and prayerful.
Balaam is proof that a person can hear from God and see into the spiritual realm but their heart can still be far from God. I believe much error has been propagated by men and women like this because the people of God have not practiced discernment in the past. Godly discernment is needed even more at the present time we are living in. Will you know these sorcerers by their fruits? They may have a title like Rabbi, or Reverend, or Pastor, or Mullah, but you will identify them by their works of the flesh…adultery, fornication, love of money, drug use, etc., etc.
Also, the encouragement of drug use, both legal and illegal, is apparently an attempt by Satan to open doorways into the supernatural realm. If you do a little research into the mass murderers, homicidal maniacs, and megalomaniac dictators that have appeared in the last few years, you will find out that they have one thing in common (not guns)…they are all steady, long term users of mind altering drugs.
Rev 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
Sorceries: G5331, pharmakeia, far-mak-i'-ah
From G5332; medication (“pharmacy”), that is, (by extension) magic (literal or figurative): - sorcery, witchcraft.
Be VERY careful when you use drugs, whether prescribed or not! If you find yourself depressed, you should turn to God in prayer…NOT a drug to make you feel good.
Now we know how to identify sorcerers but how do we fight them?
There are two special cities in the Bible: Jerusalem and Babylon. They both represent two areas of warfare. When two armies enter into battle, the army that controls the “high ground” will usually have the greatest advantage. God’s high ground is the spiritual realm and Satan’s high ground is the flesh. In the spirit, we see that Moses won over Jannes and Jambres, and the Apostle Paul won over Barjesus, and the Apostle Peter won over Simon the sorcerer. That is why Jesus said if someone strikes you on your cheek to turn your other cheek. Jesus only fought in the spirit, HE NEVER EVER FOUGHT IN THE FLESH! People who resist the antichrist in the flesh will lose.
The secret to spiritual power is not what you know but WHO you know. The closer your fellowship with God, the more spiritual power and authority you will have. That was what Jesus was trying to explain with His parable of the wise steward. A steward does not own anything BUT he does have control over how his master’s wealth is distributed. How does a king or wealthy person choose an overseer of their possessions? Why did Potiphar choose Joseph to be his steward?
Gen 39:3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
Gen 39:4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
Fellowship with God is the most important factor for success in your life. How do we get close to God?
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Diligently seek: G1567, ekzēteō, ek-zay-teh'-o
From G1537 and G2212; to search out, that is, (figuratively) investigate, crave, demand, (by Hebraism) worship: - en- (re-) quire, seek after (carefully, diligently).
We need to spend more time with God, we need to spend more time praying, fasting, and meditating on His word.
